Brief Description:
Information and communication technology (ICT) can play a key role in helping
countries to confront development challenges and to compete effectively in the
global economy. ICT can have a positive impact by improving social inclusion
and gender equality, expanding economic opportunities for the poor, lowering
the cost of public / private goods and services and improving democratic
governance.
Government of Bangladesh has given greater importance to the
Information and Communication Technology for establishing good governance in
the country. As part of the initiative, the government has invested in
modernization and expansion of local area network in the Prime Minister Office
(PMO), training to the user groups and deployment of application software for
good governance.
The Government is seeking assistance from the United Nation
Development Program (UNDP) to strengthen the Prime Minister’s Office, in terms
of building its ICT capacity and bring cultural, attitudinal changes in PMO
towards internalization of e-government processes. The short term activities
will lead to the formulation of comprehensive action plan for e-government and
implementation, including business process reengineering for bringing
transparency and efficiency in administration.
